Japan Earthquake Tsunami Warning
Japanese Meteorological Agency of Japan had first issued a forecast that a 5 meter high Tsunami wave shall hit the Noto region of Japan. However, the forecast was later withdrawn and instead JMA issued a Tsunami warning after witnessing an almost 1.2 meter high wave in the west coast of Japan neighboring the South Korea. After the agency’s report the government of Japan issued warnings for the residents of Ishikawa, Toyama and Niigata and asked to vacate the costal side residences and head towards the higher grounds to survive the foretold Tsunami.
Such tsunami warnings in Japan are issued after 12 years since March 2011 when a devastating earthquake shook up the entire Northeast Japan followed by a horrific tsunami which swept away the lives of more than 20,000 people.
Before this in 2023, in October an earthquake of 6.1 magnitude had struck the Izu island and a minor tsunami struck the island causing some life loss.
Threat To Nuclear Power Plant In Ishikawa Post Japan Earthquake Today
The Izu island earthquake and Tsunami from 2011 had wreaked more havoc due to the nuclear meltdown in Fukushima.
Similarly, after the Japan earthquake and the tsunami warnings today, people were more fearful of the Shika Nuclear Plant which is in Ishikawa.
The government officials confirmed that the earthquake did not have any harm in the nuclear plant in Ishikawa, however, the JMA asked the respective bodies to stay alert since the earthquake has increased the chances of fire and landslides in the region and those can lead to any accident if people don’t act proactively.
